The five oldest five kids and I left town and arrived at Pittsburg Landing in the Hell’s Canyon National Recreation Area a little less than an hour later. It was pleasantly warm, in the mid 50’s, and sunny. We were the only car parked at the trailhead as we headed south on the Snake River National Recreation Trail.
The trail led us up and down as we followed the east bank of the river. We were sometimes right down by the river and at other times found ourselves along narrow shelves 100 ft above the river. I was a little nervous as the kids negotiated portions of the trail, but everyone did just fine.
