The kids and I grabbed the fishing rods and went out to explore the Craig Mountains. We had never been to either Soldier Meadows Reservoir or Lake Waha and thought that we could fish either of those.
Our first stop was Soldier Meadows Reservoir. The wind was blowing and the lake was choppy. Fishing the muddy reservoir didn’t seem like a lot of fun, so we decided to head over to Lake Waha. The location of Lake Waha was prettier than Soldier Meadows, but once again the fishing didn’t look very attractive.
We next drove out the ZaZa Road on the Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area. The low snowpack opened the roads earlier than usual. We enjoyed expansive views and enjoyed exploring a new place.
Our final stop on the day was Winchester Lake State Park where we finished the day catching trout.
I’m not sure I’m really interested in heading back to Lake Waha or Soldier Meadows, but we do want to spend more time exploring the Craig Mountain WMA. Specifically we are hoping to go back on mountain bikes to explore some of the many jeep roads and ATV routes.
